Basil Lubbock - The Log of The Cutty Sark (2nd Hand Hardback)
Synopsis
"A history of the famous tea and wool clipper, Cutty Sark, the most interesting sailing ship still afloat, considered to have been the fastest of all the clippers.
The book is compiled from her log books, her captain's abstracts and information received from those who served aboard her, and from those who served aboard her rivals, or were connected with her in some way or other.
One chapter, "A Hell-Ship Voyage", is more full of dramatic incident than any sea story by Clark Russel, and it gives the true details of a tragedy which Joseph Conrad has woven into one of his fascinating books.
The illustrations, which are very numerous, are mostly taken from old photographs. The scale plans of her lines, midship section and sail area should enable any model enthusiast to construct a correct representation of the famous ship without any difficulty." - From Back Cover.
The well-known volume that brought the famous clipper and her celebrated master to the notice of the sea-loving public.

External Reviews
"Basil Lubbock was an expert when it came to ships, shipping and ship design. In this book he has placed that expertise at the disposal of the reader. He actually spoke to many who had sailed on board the Cutty Sark in addition to many who sailed on her rival ships. Obtaining her logs (and even the logs from those rival vessels) and photographs - still not seen published elsewhere, this book has remained the standard reference work for the Cutty Sark for a great many years.
As others with an interest in this ship have considered writing something new about the Cutty Sark, most have recognised how the definitive work on this great vessel has already been written by someone called Basil Lubbock. That story is here, the detail is here, the photographs are here. You will not be disappointed."
"The book was published first in 1924, written by a man who was asked by his readers to publish a book about the Cutty Sark, knew and intereviewed many who sailed on her. The power of the narrative is compelling. Skip the tables of cargoes, miles made good per day, crossing times if you wish and stick with the story. This book is a wealth of factual information for those who seek it but a gripping insight into a bygone age by someone who was there" - Amazon Reviews.
