Lord Hope's Diaries - UK Supreme Court & Afterwards 2009-2015 (2nd Hand Hardback)
ISBN / GTIN-13 : 9781904968007
Synopsis
Lord Hope’s Diaries is the title of a series of books which covers the whole of Lord Hope’s career at the Scottish Bar and as a Judge in Edinburgh and then in London. It provides a unique and fascinating insight into a way of life in the law that has now passed into history.
This volume (Lord Hope's Diaries Volume V) is the last in the series and falls into two parts.
The first part contains an account of the first four years of the Supreme Court’s existence as it established its character and reputation. This is set against the background of a fascinating variety of events at home and visits overseas. David Hope’s statutory disqualification from sitting and speaking in the House of Lords came to an end when he retired from the Court at the end of June 2013. He returned to the House of Lords and took up his position on the Crossbenches as a working peer.
So the second part of the volume . . . and Afterwards, which runs on for a further two and a half years, describes his experiences as he participated in the work of the House and, following his election to that office, his first months as Convenor of the Crossbench peers. It ends with his decision in December 2015 to cease recording his life as it happened and turn to the publication of what he had written instead.

External Reviews
"Dating from 1978 to 2015, and covering his time from Senior Counsel all the way to Deputy President of the Supreme Court, the volumes are (largely) unedited reproductions of Lord Hope’s faithfully-compiled personal diaries. Needless to say, these diaries are the first of any modern judge to be published for a general audience (and there is certainly some disquiet about the wisdom of the decision to do so)." - Lewis Graham, UK Constitutional Law Association.
