"I got this book for university. It was an easy read and was a great help through 3rd and 4th year university essays. I would recommend this book for similar purposes or even just as an interest." - Amazon Review.
The Editors
Tom Devine - Sir Tom Devine is the Sir William Fraser Professor Emeritus of Scottish History and Palaeography at the University of Edinburgh. He is the author or editor of more that forty books on Scottish historical studies and related fields. The only historian to be knighted ‘for services to the study of Scottish history’, he has been described by The Times newspaper as ‘as close to a national bard as the nation has’.
Featured Author . . . T.M. Devine
Rosiland Mitchison - Rosalind Mary Mitchison FRSE was a 20th Century historian and academic who specialised in Scottish social history. She was affectionately known as "Rowy" Mitchison. Rowy was active and formative as the editor of a number of collective books on 18th Century Scotland, on Scottish and Irish history, and on nationalism. Again, her humanity and source-based scholarship were evident. Her work on Scottish population history, with Flinn and Smout, is still the reference point for all subsequent studies.
