Christos Tsiolkas - The Slap (2nd Hand Paperback)
ISBN / GTIN-13 : 9781848873568
Synopsis
The International Bestseller.
Longlisted for The Man Booker Prize 2010.
. . . at a suburban barbecue one afternoon, a man slaps an unruly boy.
The boy is not his son . . .
It is a single act of violence, but the slap reverberates through the lives of everyone who witnesses it happen. The narrative is presented through the viewpoints of eight individual characters, and focuses on their reactions after a man controversially reprimands his friend's son by slapping him during a social gathering.
Christos Tsiolkas presents the impact of this apparently minor domestic incident through the eyes of eight of those who witness it. The result is an unflinching interrogation of the life of the modern family, a deeply thought-provoking novel about boundaries and their limits . . .

External Reviews
'A tremendously vital book in every sense.' - Sunday Times.
'One of the truly great novels of the new millennium' - John Boyne.
'A truly fantastic read! I was intrigued by this title as it always raises the pertinent question "to slap or not to slap?" The setting for the said action is a friends and family BBQ but the child receiving the slap is not that parents' child. The immediate effect is to break down the day with everyone leaving. Here you are invited to briefly glimpse into the mind of those attending who aren't parents, which is fascinating alongside the context of those that are. The knock on effect on the friends and family is narrated with empathy and compassion whilst never proving bias.' - Goodreads Review.
'As addictive as the best soap opera.' - Daily Mail.
'Brilliantly compelling and utterly fresh. Fiercely fantastic, you won't be able to put this down.' - Grazia.
