Jim Godbolt - A History of Jazz in Britain (1919-50) (2nd Hand Hardback)
Synopsis
A History of Jazz in Britain 1919-1950 was the first truly comprehensive survey of this phenomenon from a British perspective. Despite the increase in literature since it was first published, there is no other book to rival it. This edition includes additional photos and an updated text.
This book examines the arrival of jazz in Britain, the influence of American musicians, the big-band era and then the advent of bop, the development of jazz journalism and specialist clubs and the cloak and dagger plots culminating in the defiance of the Musicians' Union ban on the appearance of American musicians in Britain.
A wealth of conscientiously researched detail is related with the trenchant and pithy humour for which the author is well-known
