External Reviews

"Tremendous book. Not what it was described as - it is not a book of poetry, nor does it appear to have an article on T. S. Eliot. Have only just started into the book, but appears to be largely about William McIlvanney's beautifully sharp and, at times, hilariously funny, observations on what it means to be Scottish. He looks at very many angles, even in the first few chapters - Referendum, Edinburgh, 'Being Poor', Disco, Race Track, Care Homes, & 'Journeys of the Magi' - an eye opening, and often hilarious, recounting of his Scottish football fan travels - the most epic of which, flying to New York, then travelling through the Americas, with friends, to Cordoba, Argentina - for the Football World Cup 1978 - is, quite frankly, an amazing read. One of the best books I have bit into for a long time." - Amazon Review.
