Hipsway - Hipsway (2nd Hand Compact Disc) | Audio CD
Description
Hipsway were a Scottish pop band who enjoyed international success with their hit single ‘The Honeythief’. The band was formed in Glasgow in 1984 by ex-Altered Images guitarist Johnny McElhone on bass, with front man Grahame Skinner (vocals), Pim Jones (guitar) and Harry Travers (drums). Their music was characterized by Skinner’s deep voice and Jones’ guitar playing.
They were signed by Mercury/Phonogram and released their debut single ‘The Broken Years’ in June 1985, which peaked at #72. ‘Ask The Lord’ followed in August and also peaked at #72.
It took the release of ‘The Honeythief’ in February 1986 to break the band on a national level, when the single made #17 and became one of the most memorable hits of the era.

External Reviews
"Hipsway's self titled debut album was just about perfect. Blue-eyed soul which managed to swing like a sledgehammer, and entranced me as a teenager. This is a lovingly collected Deluxe version - as well as the original album you get several remixes and some rare and unreleased material. As with so many unearthed tracks, you'll realise quickly why they didn't make the original album. But they are all fascinating pieces that show, much to my surprise, that this album didn't spring ready formed from the heads of the artists."
" . . . magnetic and magnificent." - Google Reviews
"What, however, stands out listening to the songs on ‘Hipsway’ all these years on is how timeless they are. Part of this is down - even in the 80's, that decade of musical bombast and excess - to Gary Langan’s and Paul Staveley O’Duffy’s crisp, meticulous and subtle production. Grahame Skinner points out in the sleeve notes that accompany the new edition Hipsway’s varied influences and, an edgy conglomerate of rock riffs, pop sounds and dance beats, much of it is also down to the fact that these are simply great songs." - PennyBlack.
