The Best of UB40 - Volume One is a compilation album by the British reggae band UB40.
Birmingham's UB40 spent the early 1980's doing something genuinely unusual - making reggae that crossed over to a mainstream pop audience without diluting what made the genre compelling in the first place. This 1987 Virgin compilation gathers eighteen tracks from their most fertile period, 1980 to 1986.
What holds it all together is the band's canny pop instinct - a gift for melody and groove that made their music accessible without ever feeling lightweight.
The album includes 13 solo tracks as well as a track that the band performed with Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders.
