Simon Scarrow - Hearts of Stone (2nd Hand Hardback)
Synopsis
A dramatic and atmospheric novel of war, betrayal and friendship against the backdrop of a beautiful Greek island during World War 2.
In the early 1930's schoolboys Peter Dorner and Nicolaos Papandraki became friends while Peter's father worked on an archaeological dig on the Greek island of Lefkas.
Years later, at the height of the Second World War, they are fated to meet again. Now, though, Peter is an intelligence officer in the German army, brought in to help suppress the partisans, while Mahos is the leader of the local resistance movement. Peter's knowledge of the island and its people is now a deadly weapon against his old friend, and the many others who made his childhood visit so idyllic.
The decisions each man makes will be critical to the destiny of countless men, women and children, as they stand torn between loyalty to each other and loyalty to the country of their birth.

"This stand alone novel by Simon Scarrow is a great novel about the Greek Resistance on the Island of Lefkas in Greece during WW II as well as its aftermath that's situated years later in England. The storytelling of this tale is absolutely wonderful and all the characters come really vividly to life, because of the feelings and emotions of the people involved, which are love as well as hate and forgiveness as well as unforgiveness, are incredibly well pictured within this historical story."
"This is a major departure from Mr Scarrow's tales of the adventures of Cato and Macro but a diversion which is well worth following. It is a tale of love, war, friendship, betrayal and barbarity . . . " - Google Reviews.
