Peter Thompson - The Propagator's Handbook (2nd Hand Hardback)
Synopsis / AI Summary
Subtitled : 50 foolproof recipes - hundreds of plants for your garden.
The Propagator's Handbook by Peter Thompson is a comprehensive and practical guide to plant propagation. Containing straightforward practical advice on dividing plants, sowing seeds and taking cuttings, this book aims to arm even complete beginners with the confidence to have a go, and to allow the gardener freedom to plan and plant lavishly and imaginatively, without counting the cost.
All kinds of garden plants are covered - annuals, biennials, herbaceous perennials, ferns, bulbs, alpines, conservatory plants, shrubs, climbers and even trees.
Each short section describes one simple method of propagation and growing on - how to do it, what will be needed, a list of the plants for which it works, and details of what can go wrong and the remedies.

External Reviews
"This is truly a bible for lovers of plants who have a horror of garden centre prices. I have already bought four copies of this book to give away as presents. When you realise the abundance of nature, you marvel at the waste. Yet you can take advantage of natures bounty by collecting your own seeds, propagating from neighbours bushes, and multiplying your own favourites. This is a concise recipe format which also tells you how things go wrong. I love the illustrations with their subtle humour. You will save the price of this book in your first season, even if you use only one of the recipes." - Erudity, Amazon Review.
The Author
Peter Thompson was a British horticulturist and plant scientist with a background in research - he worked at the Scottish Crop Research Institute. He wrote several well-regarded books on gardening and plant science, including The Propagator's Handbook and Creative Propagation, both being particularly well-known and widely used in horticultural circles. His writing is grounded in plant biology, making it more scientifically rigorous than many popular gardening guides.
