Synopsis

Published to mark the opening of the new Borders Railway in Scotland

This book tells the inside story of the three-year construction project, including stunning exclusive photography, and answers a simple question: what was it like to build this thing?

It also delves into the history of the line from the Victorian age, as well as exploring and celebrating the culture of the people and places along and near the route, from the proud silver bands of Midlothian’s mining villages to the spectacular Common Ridings of the borderlands.

External Reviews

"The text consists of the story of the rebuilding, an overview of parts of the area that the line passes through and a thumbnail history of the original line. There are copious colour reproductions to accompany the text: one featuring the excellent Madge Elliot MBE, inextricably linked to the Waverley Route. Although perhaps at first glance resembling a " coffee table " book, it is more than that; it is a very good souvenir of the rebuilding of the line. Highly recommended as an accompaniment to a great project."

" . . . thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Much human interest which makes a change from the such and such class of locomotive at xyz location type of book." - Goodreads Reviews.
