Synopsis

From Cape Wrath to Finisterre is a travelogue and an homage to Celtic lands and waters, from their northern to their south-western landfalls, Cape Wrath, in the far north of Scotland, points towards the Arctic Circle. Finisterre, Galicia's northern tip, was so named for being 'the End of the Earth'.

"Cape Wrath" tells the story of how Bjorn Larsson came to write his dark novel "The Celtic Ring" about the disappearance of a sailor, arms smuggling and a secret Druidic cult.

On the long sailing trip between Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Brittany and the Spanish coast of Galicia, Larsson talked to many sailors and adventurers, fishermen and seafarers, who were waiting for the next tide to leave port. Their yarns, woven together in Larsson's head, form the backdrop to "The Celtic Ring", his thriller about a Celtic secret organisation.

Their philosophy, outlined within, however, is not fiction: "Cape Wrath" describes a different way of life, a life with the sea, which unites the people of the Celtic fringe of Europe.

External Reviews

'He has written an unusual book which must stimulate any reader to consider how they experience the world.' - John de Falbe The Spectator.

"It's a paean to the virtues of restlessness and liberty." - Giles Foden, Conde Nast Traveller.

'Cape Wrath to Finisterre shows the same passion for sailing and for travel. It is not a chronological description of a cruise, fleshing out a log book like so many other sailing books. It's more a collection of essays on various subjects. These subjects are all related to Larsson's sailing trips and experiences living aboard his boats. These essays perfectly capture what is to me the true nature of sailing and foreign travel - not just the practicalities which do appear in the book but also Larsson's philosophies which strike a chord with me at least. Reading the book would be best thought of as like late night conversations with Larsson over a few drams in the galley of his boat while the wind howls outside and he talks about the places he's been, adventures he's had, people he's met and life in general.' - Amazon Review.
