The Author

Clifford Leonard Clark "Cliff" Hanley was a Scottish journalist, novelist, playwright and broadcaster. He was educated at Eastbank Academy in Glasgow.

During the late 1930s, he was active in the Independent Labour Party. During the Second World War he was a conscientious objector. The lyrics to the Scottish song, Scotland The Brave, was written by Cliff Hanley in 1951.
