Description

Album from the British pop singer/songwriter. Songs from the Last Century is the fourth solo studio album by George Michael.

Produced by Phil Ramone and George Michael himself, it was his first album of cover versions. It consists mainly of old jazz standards, plus new interpretations of more recent popular songs, such as "Roxanne" (originally by The Police) and "Miss Sarajevo" (originally by U2 with Luciano Pavarotti).

On Songs From The Last Century, George Michael seems determined to demonstrate just how much he's matured since the carefree days of Wham by offering his own interpretations of some of the century's classic songs. In doing so he manages to shake off any lingering remnants of his boyband past.

External Reviews

"A mature album from George Michael, nicely laid back and sung well. Normally a song is written for a particular person, which is made to suit their voice. When somebody else takes on that song sometimes it can go wrong. George Michael nailed this one all the tracks well executed with great songs such as 'Wild is the Wind', 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' and 'Brother Can You Spare A Dime'. One song I did not like originally 'I Remember You' (an old Frank Ifield song) I did not like it first time around but again a very good version on this album." - Amazon Review.
