John Lee Curtis Williamson - "Sonny Boy" Williamson I (March 30, 1914 - June 1, 1948) was an American blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter. He's not to be confused with Sonny Boy Williamson II, a later blues harmonica star, who "stole" his name. (That's a story worth googling).
Williamson's harmonica style was a great influence on post-war performers. Later in his career, he was a mentor to many up-and-coming blues musicians who moved to Chicago, including Muddy Waters.
He's often referred to as "the father of modern blues harp", these are his essential recordings.
