The Style Council - The Sound Of (2nd Hand Compact Disc)
Description
In the wake of the demise of The Jam, Paul Weller joined up with former Merten Parka Mick Talbot for a string of hit albums that delivered some of the most memorable compositions of his career.
Picking up where The Jam left off, The Style Council's musical mix blended elements of Jazz, Soul and R&B. To the punks, it seemed Weller had mellowed, but his lyrics were no less caustic and poetic.
This collection of digitally remastered tracks brings 21 of their best together for a masterful compilation.

External Reviews
"The Sound of the Style Council brings together the finest moments of Paul Weller's post-Jam/pre-solo career output. This was the time that The Modfather temporarily hung up his parka and decided instead to investigate the world of Northern Soul, teaming up with keyboard king Mick Talbot and the soulful tones of Dee C Lee in the process.
Their entire career has already been exceedingly well documented in the superb box set The Complete Adventures of the Style Council , but for anyone wanting a more compact guide, this collection of 21 classic moments is an essential purchase. From the full-on keyboard-fuelled, soul boy floor-fillers like "Walls Coming Tumbling Down" and "Shout to the Top" to the more reflective soulful moments like "Long Hot Summer" and "You're the Best Thing", this is about as far removed from the gritty stripped down sound of The Jam as you could possibly get, with strings and horns further adding to the fuller sound.
Weller's political edge still shines through - at the time the band were at the forefront of the Red Wedge movement - but he appears to have lost some of his anger and vitriol, preferring instead a more poignant angle, stunningly illustrated by tracks like "Ghosts of Dachau". A great testament to probably the least celebrated but most interesting phase in Weller's career." - Helen Marquis.
